Classic Favorites
I kind of have an obsession with classic children's literature. Max and his wild things. Dr. Seuss. Ferdinand. I could, well, write a book about my favorite books! But lists of books are easy to find and possibly you have your favorites. I suggest rereading them. Visit a library. Spend some time in the Children's Section. Visit with some old friends. Or make some new ones. It will be worth your while.
Newer Favorites
There are too many amazing children's authors and illustrators to list! But I do have some favorites, including;
Kate DiCamillo (possibly my very favorite, I love everything she writes!). Because of Winn Dixie. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Raymie Nightengale and her friends. Everything. She writes is magical.
Jacqueline Woodson. Another favorite, Her book If You Come Softly, that I read when it was new in 1998, my first year working in a public library. I remember reading the end at the circulation desk, needing to run away because I couldn't keep from crying. Hard. Out loud. It was my first thought when I heard the news of the murder of Trayvon Martin. Her picture book, The Other Side. is one of my absolute favorites.
I could go on and on and on but I won't. Try one!
